-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Professional or Home Use? How will you be using your ionic foot bath? - In either case you want to ensure that the foot bath you buy is durable and well made and will last a long time. If you are a professional offering professional services to clients this is especially important since you will be using your machine much more often and using it for back-to back sessions. You want to make sure you are getting a machine that can handle the increased usage and you want to make sure it has been tested in a professional capacity. Home users you want to ensure the machine is easy to use and easy to clean. It should be easily stored and portable. Both professionals and home users should be cognizant of the cost of replacement parts. The arrays should be high quality and long lasting. They should also be easy to clean and affordable to replace.

2. Is the machine safe for you and your clients? - Despite safety claims by companies selling overpriced units and using Foot Bath Safety to justify the high price of their machines, the fact is that there has never been a single person caused bodily injury from using an ionic foot spa machine ...EVER. Not electrocuted, not burned, not hit over the head with...no instances of injury ...NEVER.. That said not all machines are equal in this department and you should watch out for machines that are not backed by reliable USA based companies. Machines purchased on ebay or from low standard internet sellers can not be guaranteed to be built for safety.

3. Is there a wrist strap, belt or tens wires? - Professional users offering professional spa services also want to ensure that the unit they use will help their business and NOT disrupt it. This is an important consideration that directly relates to machines that force you to use troublesome wrist straps, belts or tens wires. Machines that use wrist straps, belts or other wires to ground the user cause problems for spa professionals performing detox sessions. These type of machines stop mid-session and force you to start the entire session over. This is caused by a "circuit error" and not only is it an annoying inconvenience, it is completely unprofessional and embarrassing for the person charging for the service. Machines using wrist straps are often at the very low end of the ionic foot spa spectrum and can be found on eBay and sub-standard websites. These machines are purchased from overseas manufacturers and usually carry no warranty. They will cause you headaches and cost you money.

4. How much should you expect to pay? - By far the most asked question is why is one machine $3500 and another $99. You should NOT be fooled into purchasing an expensive ionic foot spa with an inflated and unnecessary 5 year warranty. You should also NOT be duped into purchasing a machine that is substandard and ineffective.

There are certain criteria that must be met to effectively create a negatively charged bath.

  • POWER - steady voltage of at least 13.5 volts and the ability to maintain 2.4 amps
  • CONTROL - a device that delivers a controlled current to the water
  • PROGRAMMING - ensures the current has a negative bias (negative ions = health)
  • CONDUCTOR - a high quality metal alloy array to deliver the charge
  • SODIUM CHLORIDE (SALT) - used to raise the level of conductivity in the water

Expensive machines - they have all of the above when purchased from a reputable company. However, what you are really paying for is:

  • An inflated and unnecessary warranty - usually 3-5 years.
  • Advertising and expensive marketing materials.
  • An overpaid staff of sales and marketing people.

Cheap machines - they often have none of the above criteria. And, what you are really missing is:

  • Any warranty or company/seller accountability.
  • Any assurance of quality whatsoever.
  • Customer Service

5. Who are you buying from and how are they selling to you? - Ask yourself who you are buying from and how they are selling to you. The following are some good questions to ask yourself before buying anything?

  • Is the company reputable?
  • How long have they been in business?
  • Is the machine branded or is it a "generic knock off"?
  • Do they have a website that is well thought out and presentable?
  • Is there an 800 number? Do they answer the phone?
  • If they answer, are the people answering the phone knowledgeable?
  • Is your payment information secure
  • What is the "company warranty", NOT the "manufacturer's warranty" but the company's?
  • What is the return policy?
  • How is the company selling to you? What is the approach? Are they honest about colors and detox? Are they objective and can they outline what sets their machine apart from the rest of what you see online?

These are only a few of the questions you'll want to ask yourself before buying an ionic foot bath. Overall make sure it feels good to you. Never buy from a company that doesn't have your best interests at heart.

6. What are the shipping, return and customer service policies? -Buy only from companies that carry stock, ship same or next day, offer a reasonable return policy and employ knowledgeable and courteous customer service people.

  • A reputable company will have inventory in stock and ready to ship same-day or next day. Beware of anyone that has to wait for inventory or may be "drop shipping" someone else's products.
  • The return policy should be no less than 30 days from the date of delivery.
  • Customer service people should be knowledgeable and friendly.

7. What are the associated costs of replacement parts? - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY FOR PROFESSIONALS.

Replacement parts for an ionic foot bath are the arrays, which are sometimes called modules. This is what goes into the water is made of metal bars, plates or coils and is often encapsulated in plastic. Arrays come in all shapes and sizes and vary in cost from $2 all the way up to $200.

The purpose of the arrays is to deliver the current to the water. Arrays are replaceable because they breakdown during sessions. Much of the array breakdown is responsible for the color change that takes place in the water.

Cheap arrays found on eBay on the websites of bogus companies breakdown very quickly. When it comes to arrays you MUST ensure that you are buying arrays with thick bars that will last at least 40 sessions. You don't need to pay more that $25 for a good array but you do need to know what to look for.

Being forced to buy expensive arrays sold by companies selling over-priced ionic foot baths is just as bad a situation as buying inferior cheap arrays. These arrays come with strings and are most of the time more complicated than they need to be. many are in the form of rings sets or plates that are a pain to organize and install before each session. They can be hard to clean and even harder to replace depending ont he company's policies. Expensive arrays do not necessarily last longer either!

Make sure you know what you are getting into financially and practically when buying arrays and modules. If you are not careful it can cost you a lot of money and aggravation.

8. Is there a Warranty & what is the warranty really costing you? -You don't need an inflated warranty. Ionic foot baths are not, or at least they shouldn't be easy to break. With care they should last for many years.

Ask yourself this...Why do machines with 5 year warranties need 5 year warranties if they are so good? How much is the seller charging you for those 5 years? Odds are you're paying an inflated premium for no logical reason.

With regard to warranties the decision should be based on this...how are you using the machine and how long before you have recouped what you paid for it? For example, If you are a professional user selling spa sessions for $25-$80 dollars, how long will it take you to earn what you paid for the machine? If it is within 1 year then why do you need to pay for an extended warranty? And if you are considering purchasing a machine for personal/home use, then how long before you recoup what it would have cost you to go to a professional and pay $25-$80 per session?

So why do you want to pay for an expensive extended warranty?
